Hello...

Claudia Smith is a lifelong photographer who is inspired by all things Mother Nature. She transforms photographic elements of natural imagery into intricate surface pattern designs. Her studio is a curiosity shop, filled with collections found in the great outdoors (feathers, bones, shells, insects, etc.).

She disembodies objects from the natural world, rendering them in the abstract. Many of her creations have an element of hide-and-seek. The image may just look like a pattern, but look past the negative space and you will find a tree or an insect or a bird or some other surprise. Her work invites curiosity, encouraging viewers to look closer and discover the unexpected.

Claudia lives in Seattle with her husband, and while their three grown children have flown the nest, their home is still lively, thanks to two spirited pandemic puppies, a wise old barn cat, two mischievous raccoon families, a watchful murder of crows, and an ever-changing chorus of backyard birds. She keeps an eye on her owl box—perfectly positioned with a view of Mt. Rainier—hoping that one day, an owl will decide to make it home.
